by Jane Yolen. World tales with feminine heroes. Tales from Germany (Fitcher's Bird, Mr. Fox and Bluebeard) in which the young Erna saves herself and also her sisters from being the victims of an evil wizard. In a tale from Romania, Mizilca serves in the sultan's army in her sick father's place; and in a tale from Argentina, Maldonada's kindness to a puma and its cubs saves her. Good stories for reading aloud. Reading level: 9 to 12.

Two Easter Books

Okay, These two aren't fairies, fairytales, or fables... I just thought they were really great books for Easter. Follow the link to see the inside pages and what they do. I'll take them down after Easter.

The Great Golden Easter Egg Hunt : A Lift-The-Flap/Search-And-Find Book. 50 flaps to peek under, 50 Easter eggs to punch out. Remember, you're only young once but you can be immature forever.
A Tale for Easter, Tasha Tudor

I didn't have this book but recommend her illustrations. I had Tasha Tudor's Bedtime Book, which is out of print but if you have wonderful memories of it, too, follow the link to do a booksearch for it.
